Why did you become a personal trainer?
In a nutshell, I became a trainer to show girls and women the strength that they possess, and the impact that it can have on your entire well-being, mentally, emotionally AND physically, when you find out just how capable your body is .
What are your favorite things about being a personal trainer?
I love teaching; I love watching my clients consistently progress, push through challenges, embrace change and overcome obstacles and thought processes that they’ve been struggling with for years – especially when it comes to strength, feeling powerful, and feeling confident.
If you could train one celebrity, who would it be and why?
Hmm…I’m not very in-tune with my celebs these days but I’d say, Jennifer Lawrence because I’m preeetty sure we share the same sense of humor and ALL workouts are better when you’re laughing. Just ask my clients. Terrible puns and weird faces, galore.
If you had one workout style to describe yourself, what would it be?
I’d just call my style “athletic” because really, that’s what I train for; to be strong, fast, powerful, flexible – athletic. I enjoy being an athlete; basically, I like to move and I like to be able to move.
In your mind, what is the single biggest benefit for someone to hire a personal trainer?
Knowledge. Sometimes you just need someone to coach you through things, especially if fitness isn’t necessarily your area of expertise. If you need help or want help, ask for it – there’s no shame in wanting to learn more or wanting to learn how to do things correctly!
What are your hobbies?
If I’m not working or training, I like to spend as much time outside as I can. (In the warmer weather) I like to hike, fish and spend time near the lake. Should it be cold or rainy, I enjoy a good Netflix binge, reading, writing, playing piano and making trips back to the suburbs to see my family and my pup!
Any guilty pleasures?
On principle, I try to avoid the term, “guilt” but if we’re talking about things that you wouldn’t normally expect from a fitness professional, here goes: I love wine, I love pizza…burgers…beer…annnnnd I can put away a Ben&Jerry’s in one sitting.
Anything else?
Sometimes, I feel like I’m cheating at life because I love my job so much. Everyone deserves to feel strong and everyone deserves to feel happy; it’s such an honor and so rewarding when people allow me to coach them through this journey!
