About Matthew H

Matthew grew up in Central Pennsylvania and 3 weeks after graduating he joined the U.S. Army. Matthew served for 4 years active duty and was honorably discharged. He went to school a short time after and graduated summa cum laude with both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Sports Management and Exercise Science, respectively. Then he moved out to the Phoenix area in 2011.

Matthew has been a Strength and Conditioning coach for 20+ years and has had the opportunity to be a part of some successful teams over those years, which includes 8 National Championships in sports such as Volleyball and Basketball. He has worked with 12 different sports over this time period at the professional, collegiate and high school levels.

I work with athletes or general clients to help improve their overall well-being, whether that is for performance, weight loss, mobility, functional movement with daily tasks, etc. I want to be able to help in anyway that I can so the person or team that I’m working with can enjoy their lives more productively and be happy!

Training Philosophy
I want people to be able to perform better and live happier with their lives. I do this by a systematic process of screening the clients or athlete, then analyzing this information to develop the system moving forward (Mobility, Functional movements)

Training Professionally Since
October 1, 2002

Typical Training Session

They can expect to get useful knowledge and a great training session. A typical session will be a warmup, followed by some SMR work (Foam Rolling), dynamic stretching, then the meat of the workout, which can be High Intensity, Set-rep training with a longer rest period (depending on the phase of training), Cardio work (intervals, usually, but not always), then I work on correctives with them to help activate muscles that have been lengthened so we can bring them back to normal (so to speak), then static stretching (emphasising the tight muscles and not the lengthened ones). The session can be between 45-75 mins.

Client success story

I had the honor of having Matt Huntsman for my strength and conditioning coach for two years while playing for the prestigious Phoenix College Men’s Basketball teams of 2014-15 and 2015-16. I’ve seen great physical improvement from me and my former teammates while working out with Coach Matt as he always put maximum effort into making sure we were competing at the highest level. I am beyond thankful for the physical improvements he has helped me make, but those don’t compare to the mental attributes and leadership qualities coach instilled in me those two years. With me being a captain, Coach Huntsman was adamant in making sure I was able to help get my team to our highest potential. Some of these leadership skills he directly instructed me, and some of them I learned by simply observing how he carried himself on the job, as well as off the job. The two most important things I took away from being in his presence were, the value of good character and genuine love for people (Even if they were complete strangers, or hard to get along with). I watched him display these characteristics with passion every day. These are traits that I hope I can pass down to anyone that is looking up to me some day. I will forever appreciate Coach Matt, not only for believing in me, but for believing that he could make me a better man, because he did just that.

If strength and conditioning is your thing, Matt Huntsman is the trainer for you. He personally trained me when he was living in Pennsylvania. Turned this 50 something women into a workout machine. He’s tough, but gives you a solid session for your money. If your looking for someone with the background in training college athletes, Matt’s your guy!

This guy knows his stuff!

I’ve known Matt for about 15 years. I started training with him when I was in high school. I can say from experience that he knows what he is doing. When I started with him, I was quite under-weight and was looking to put on muscle and increase my athleticism for sports in high school and in college. Over the course of my high school years and for most of my college years, he pushed me to be in the best shape in my life. I put on 20-30 lbs of muscle over a 5-6 year time period and many of the exercises/routines that he put me through are things that I still carry with me today as a person who likes to push myself to be at my best, physically. He is not only great for lifting and conditioning, he also has a tremendous knowledge base in nutrition. I wish that I had listened to his advice sooner (when I was younger), as I would probably be even further ahead now in what I’m able to do. I definitely recommend him for anyone, whether you are a teenager looking to get stronger and more athletic for sports, a college student, or just a person who wants to improve on your body image or overall strength. Listen to him, put in the work, and make his programs a habit, and you will definitely see the results that you want to see. He will definitely do his part to get you where you want to be.

Training with Matt Huntsman
5.0[ Professionalism 5.00 | Training Style 5.00 | Motivation 5.00 | Personality 5.00 | Overall Experience 5.00 ]

I’ve been training with Matt Huntsman for almost 2 years.  When I came to him I had some fitness experience – yoga and group cardio and weight training.  I hadn’t worked with a strength trainer before, and I was pleasantly surprised at the strength I built and how efficient working out with Matt was.  I found what would take me 90 minutes to do in the gym would take an hour or less to do with Matt.  He’d have the workout planned and the equipment setup, plus we work in a private gym so I didn’t waste time gathering equipment, waiting to use equipment or walking around a large gym.  Matt is super reliable – always on time and on task but willing to have a little fun along the way too.

Onward, To Huntsman Greatness

Matt was my weight room coach at Phoenix College. Physically, he had me in top shape. We did a combination of traditional lifting for baseball, and some innovative movements that strengthened the body in unique ways. I felt great, and performed well as a result. However, his presence as a weight room instructor extended further than that; he has been and still is a mentor in life. To this day if I asked for a lift to help an ailment, he would be in my corner. Thank you, Matt.

Great Trainer!

Matt was my trainer in college where I played volleyball. When I heard he moved to Phoenix and was training on his own I immediately called him up. My wife and I have been working out with Matt over the past two years and it has been an amazing experience. We are down to our high school weight and in the best overall shape of our lives. Thanks to Matt’s ability to create strength training that includes a variety of weight, body weight, balance, Etc. we look forward to our sessions. If you choose Matt, he will give you the focus you deserve!
