About Travis A

Hello, my name is Travis Ashley,

I am currently a full-time graduate student at Huntington University in Peoria, Arizona pursuing my degree in Occupational Therapy as my focus has transitioned from clinical fitness towards the rehabilitation field. My passion has always been working with people who need guidance through fitness and health. A personal story of mine was I used to be 300 lbs., was border line diabetic at an early age, I was never in any school sports growing up. A life changing experience took control of my mindset towards personal growth. I devoted myself to long distance jogging entered my first half marathon event not expecting anything from it. A year later I trained for the same event but received a medal for 2nd place in my age group years back. I focused on my biggest strength, which was the motivation to change.

College was my next calling in life to spend the last thirteen years obtaining my Bachelors in kinesiology (study of human movement) with a concentration in clinical exercise science, and my Masters in sports science and rehabilitation with a concentration in athletic injuries. Practical experience within the fitness field is 8 years: martial arts assistant instructor and clinical fitness field is 6 years: includes clinical fitness specialist, rehab technician, strength & conditioning specialist, physical therapy technician, human performance assistant.

Current aspiration is to be able to provide individualized approach towards fitness & health, focus on your story and strengths to bring out the best version of you. A future goal of mine is to be able to return back to the Navajo Reservation or other Native American Reservations to advocate for new gyms/wellness centers for community member or elderlies. I hope to improve the gap between rehabilitation (Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy) to the fitness field.

Typical Training Session

The first initial encounter is providing you the opportunity to tell me about your story, how can we as a team create personal goals to return back to your life prior to a life traumatic event or decision to make a step towards a healthier lifestyle. If your goal is to be able to climb a set of stairs, spend quality time with family, or regain your independence towards your health and well-being. Do you prefer to start an exercise program at home and be able to increase your self-confidence to attend a local community wellness center or gym, I am here for you. Let’s start this journey for a healthier you.

Client success story

I have had the opportunity to work with previous client who was referred to me from their primary care provider as my previous employment at a wellness center.

Client 1 was recovering from multiple myeloma which is basically bone marrow cancer, he was currently close to retirement and was still in the process of receiving cancer related therapy treatments. Our focus was to focus on regaining his strength and endurance towards completing daily activities (e.g., yard work, self-care, and spending time with family). We started off with 30-minute training sessions that occurred twice a week, then gradually build up his strength and endurance to complete one hour training sessions. Within a year and a half, he completed his personal goals and was able to attend the open gym hours at own personal guidance towards reclaiming his independence towards recovery.
